
Since coming back from my trip across Europe and Sri Lanka, I've been really feeling the holiday blues, which is why I've compiled a list of UK-based events taking place, before 2024 comes to a close.
If you're interested in wildlife, animal protection, conservation, or are just in need of a day out with friends and family, here are some not to be missed events taking place across, October through to December this year.

📍The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary Vegan Market
Up first, our friends at Flicka invite you to attend their Vegan Market, taking place on Sunday 6 October from 11am - 4pm at Penty Noweth Farm, Trenoweth Lane, Penryn.
Home to over 100 donkeys, Flicka is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries - this year celebrating 27 years in rescue and sanctuary care.
A hidden gem within Penryn - Flicka will be hosting this year's Vegan festival where guests can expect to enjoy a host of vegan stalls, meet the donkeys, enjoy a cream tea and lunch at the Flicka Cafe and if you find their mission personally inspiring, you can even adopt a donkey on the day!

📍Norfolk Wildlife Trust - Paul Richards: The Art of Nature Photography
At Cley Marshes Visitor Centre, Coast Road, Cley-next-the-Sea, NR25 7SA, from Thursday 26 September to Tuesday 8 October 2024, nature and wildlife enthusiasts are invited to explore the breathtaking world of Paul Richards, a renowned wildlife photographer shortlisted for Bird Photographer of the Year.
The exhibition, held at The Gallery at NWT Cley Marshes, showcases Paul's award-winning fine art prints, where his stunning simplicity transforms photographs into painterly works of art. Visitors can enjoy this captivating exhibition from 10am to 5pm, with no need to book. (Admission is free, however parking charges may apply for non-members.)
📍Steve Backshall comes to Wolverhampton - Ocean: Bringing Marine Dreams to Life
Steve Backshall’s Ocean talk will be gracing Wolverhampton's Civic Hall on Wednesday 23 October.
Join renowned naturalist and TV presenter, for an exhilarating journey into the wonders of the ocean. In this special show, Ocean, Steve brings the fascinating world beneath the waves to life with stunts, experiments, props, and the latest science, alongside stunning footage from his two decades on TV.
From Great whites to Orcas, seals to strange deep-sea creatures, this family-friendly event is a fantastic opportunity to discover the marvels of the ocean. Doors open at 6pm for a 7pm start. Don't miss it! If you grew up with the likes of Deadly 60 , you can bet that I'l be there when the doors open at 6pm!

📍Feeling Festive at the Donkey Sanctuary - Flicka's Winter Fayre
We can't help but share the festive events that The Flicka Foundation has to offer - the sanctuary will be hosting a winter fayre, open to all on Saturday 23 November from 11am - 4pm at Penty Noweth Farm, Trenoweth Lane, Penryn. (No booking required)
Guests can expect to meet Flicka's fabulous donkey friends, peruse the many stalls, take part in some Christmas crafts and so much more. On the day, there will be a cake sale, a raffle and even the chance to adopt a donkey if you're really onboard with Flicka's cause.
📍Owls by Moonlight at Christmas
On Saturday 7 - 8 December, Hawk Conservancy Trust, based four miles west of Andover, will be hosting a magic 'Owl by Moonlight' flying display with their majestic birds of the night. The Feathers Restaurant opens from 5.30pm, with the first owl taking flight at 7pm.
Enhanced by a few festive touches to celebrate the season, watch in awe as these mystical birds silently soar and glide through the darkness— you might even need to duck as they swoop just above your head!
Take time to walk the grounds and say hello to some of the other owls in our care.
Feeling peckish? Treat yourself to a hearty meal at Feathers Restaurant, or warm up with hot drinks, snacks, and festive hot chocolates— perfect for the chilly evening.
Tip: Wrap up warm, bring a torch, and step into the magic of the night with our incredible owls!
